Bill Haas wanted to atone for the way he finished his opening round. He did that and more Friday and was tied for the lead in the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Orlando, Fla. That sure wasn't the case for Tiger Woods. One shot out of the lead with three holes to play, Woods closed with three sloppy bogeys to fall four shots behind going into the weekend. That makes the chore a little more difficult in his bid to defend his title at Bay Hill and return to No. 1 in the world. "The good news is we've got 36 holes to go," Woods said.

Justin Rose started out as another guy in Tiger Woods' group Thursday at Bay Hill. He wound up in the lead. Rose put on a clinic with the putter and ran off four straight birdies late in his round for a seven-under-par 65, giving him a two-shot lead after the opening round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Orlando, Fla. Woods had two sloppy bogeys from greenside bunkers and didn't hit it as well as he did when he won at Doral two weeks ago....

Tiger Woods and Lindsey Vonn announced their romantic involvement via Facebook on Monday, with both of them expressing how happy they are but also asking the public to respect their privacy. Hours later, Woods was seen attending his 5-year-old daughter Samantha's junior baseball game near his home in Jupiter, Fla. Nothing strange about that. But the Daily Mail is reporting that Vonn was there too, only she never got out of the car. Instead, she waited inside for an hour. How did the folks at the Daily Mail figure this out?

Lindsey Vonn says she's in a happy relationship with Tiger Woods -- "very happy," according to her Facebook post Monday announcing the romance -- but there was a time not so long ago when she had quite a bit of fun at the expense of the golfer and his numerous extramarital affairs. Of course, everyone was poking fun at Woods back in 2010, when he held a nationally televised news conference to address the cheating scandal that eventually led to the end of his marriage to Elin Nordegren.

Tiger Woods and Lindsey Vonn are dating! All right, so we pretty much already knew that. But now the 14-time PGA major tournament champion and six-time reigning World Cup women's downhill skiing champ have decided it's OK with them that we know. The two of them simultaneously (how romantic!) posted similarly worded (so cute!) announcements regarding their relationship on their respective Facebook accounts Monday morning. I guess this means we can officially break out the "Liger" nickname!

UC Irvine men's basketball team will not be making its first NCAA tournament appearance. This is not the year to finally fear the Anteater. Top-seeded Pacific jumped to an early lead Saturday night and never lost it on its way to a 64-55 win in the Big West championship game before a crowd of 6,795 at the Honda Center. Pacific (22-12) led by as many as 13 points in the second half when Irvine (20-15) got energized after Will Davis II jammed in a jarring dunk off a lob pass from Michael Wilder.

Cal Poly overcame the loss of star forward Kayla Griffin on Saturday to upset top-seeded Pacific, 63-49, in the Big West Conference women's basketball tournament final at Honda Center. The win earned the second-seeded Mustangs their first trip to the NCAA tournament. Griffin tore knee ligaments early in the second half, but Cal Poly was able to maintain the 11-point lead it built in the first half. Griffin had four points in her 24 minutes. "We wouldn't be in this position without Kayla, there's no question," Cal Poly Coach Faith Mimnaugh said.

Way to go Steve Stricker. Way to ruin the PGA Tour for everyone else. As you may have heard, Tiger Woods won the PGA Tour tournament in Doral, Fla., on Sunday. The main reason he won was because of his outstanding putting. Woods putted 100 times in the 72-hole tournament, the best he has ever done (which is saying a lot, considering this is Tiger Woods we are talking about). He also made 27 birdies, the second-best total of his career. All because of his superior putting, a facet of his game that had failed him over the last couple of years, when Woods seemed mortal again.

DORAL, Fla. — It's bad news for his opponents when Tiger Woods can scrape the ball around the Blue Monster at Trump Doral and still cruise to a two-shot victory. Despite some wayward drives and approach shots, Woods never wavered in the final round of the Cadillac Championship on Sunday, shooting a one-under-par 71 to finish at 19-under 269 for the tournament. It was the fourth time Woods has won at Doral, his 17th World Golf Championships title and his second PGA Tour victory of the year.

Tiger Woods, the former No. 1 golfer in the world, appears ready to ascend back to the top as he strolls to what looks like another victory in the Cadillac Championship at Doral Golf Resort & Spa in Florida. He had his swagger back and probably uttered the words no other golfer wants to hear Saturday after he finished off a round of 67 -- two better than Graeme McDowell, who started the third round only two shots off the lead and finds himself still in second. When asked if he thought he could return to the form of more than a decade ago when he routed opponents and seemingly rendered golf courses defenseless, Woods replied, "I want it to be better.
