Drake basketball Coach Tom Abatemarco, whose team refused to practice or play for him, was reassigned Wednesday to unspecified duties in the university's athletic department. Assistant coach Eddie Fields will run the squad until the university completes an in-house investigation of the program, said Jack Ohle, Drake's vice president for institutional advancement.

Deposed Drake Coach Tom Abatemarco has found a new home as an assistant at the University of Colorado, head Coach Joe Harrington announced Tuesday. Abatemarco resigned from his head coach position at Drake in February after his team revolted and a university investigation found he had demeaned players.

Lynn King, a former coach and administrator at Northern Iowa, today was named athletic director for a Drake program trying to bind the wounds left by a basketball player revolt last winter. King, 44, was appointed by Drake President Michael Ferrari after a nationwide search that lasted 4 1/2 months. More than 100 people sought the job, which opened when Curt Blake resigned June 1.

Former basketball player Terrell Jackson has sued Drake University for fraud, alleging the school reneged on a promise to provide him an education. Jackson was recruited by former Coach Tom Abatemarco in 1988 after attending several schools, including Minnesota and Cincinnati. He quit the team this winter in a dispute that led to the resignation of Abatemarco, now an assistant at Colorado.
