Poor Lisa Vanderpump. The “Dancing With the Stars” week that was supposed to represent the best year of the real housewife's life turned into the worst ending when she and her hunky pro of a partner, Gleb Savchenko, were booted in the 16th season's fourth week.   It made sense, really. Lisa had been ailing since she fainted during rehearsals last Friday. And though we didn't know that she was vomiting in her trailer right before she decided to make a good show of it and perform Monday night, her fate was kind of written in the glitterverse stars.

When done right, reality show hosts blend into the background: They must move the episode along, point out the rules, emphasize high points while smoothing over the low points … and never think they're the stars of the show. Jeremy Piven raised eyebrows when he picked up the telecast's first trophy, for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy, and promptly dissed the chaotic Emmy telecast's opening by the show's five hosts -- Ryan Seacrest, Jeff Probst, Tom Bergeron, Howie Mandel and Heidi Klum. Backstage, he continued the rant. "I thought we were being punked as an audience," Piven said, as he swigged a flute of champagne. "I was confused. It was awkward. Like that moment in the movie 'The Producers,' there was 'Springtime for Hitler.

Cerritos Gahr defeated Downey, 3-1, Friday to give Tom Bergeron his 600th victory in 31 years as the Gladiators' baseball coach. Johnny Windle pitched a two-hitter, striking out six and walking one, for host Gahr (14-7, 10-1) in a San Gabriel Valley League game. "It wasn't the best conditions today, wet and windy, but it showed what Gahr baseball has been about," said Bergeron, whose teams are 600-247 and have won 14 league titles.

Tom Bergeron The approach: Always game and appropriately wry. Best moment: The physical comedy -- skipping around the stage and futzing around with Heidi Klum. Worst moment: None. The man has hosted "America's Funniest Home Videos" for years and puts up with Samantha Harris weekly. He rises above it all. -- Heidi Klum The approach: Calm, cool, collected -- and fierce, baby. Best moment: Getting dropped on the floor by Bergeron and looking good doing it. Worst moment: Having to be stripped down by William Shatner -- and feign surprise -- as a cap to the reality hosts' prolonged and awkward opening.

Can the onetime "Hammer" of the U.S. House of Representatives do a mean Texas two-step? In a move startling even by the outlandish standards of reality television, "Dancing With the Stars" announced Monday that former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay -- a pugnacious politician under indictment for alleged money-laundering -- will be a contestant in the upcoming season. DeLay will join the likes of singer Macy Gray, actress Melissa Joan Hart and entertainer Donny Osmond on the ninth season of the ABC show, which premieres Sept.

For the 20th consecutive spring, Tom Bergeron is ignoring the roar and rumble from the Artesia Freeway just beyond the right-field fence of Gahr High School's wind-whipped baseball field. "I never hear that traffic, but it may bother our opponents," said Bergeron, who blocks out everything but the fundamentals that he tries to teach to his players. He has done this well, as his 377-158 coaching record at the Cerritos school attests.
