Oakland Raiders Coach Tom Cable declined to comment Monday about reports he punched defensive assistant Randy Hanson in the jaw and caused injuries that required treatment at a hospital this month. According to AOL Fanhouse, Cable hit Hanson on Aug. 5 for unknown reasons. A report filed with the Napa (Calif.) Police Department describes an unnamed 41-year-old assistant coach being treated at the Queen of the Valley Hospital for a jaw injury, which the victim alleges was caused by an unidentified member of the Raiders' coaching staff.

New UCLA Coach Karl Dorrell has asked Idaho Coach Tom Cable to come to Westwood as offensive coordinator and line coach. Cable, who is 8-26 in three seasons with the Vandals, told the Idaho Statesman that Dorrell made the offer Dec. 18, the day he was hired to replace Bob Toledo. "If it's going to happen, it's just a matter of me saying I'm in," Cable said. "As of right now, I'm still at Idaho."

The strangest scene in the NFL this season really wasn't that unfamiliar. Al Davis sitting in the courtroom Tuesday, presenting his case about how he and his Oakland Raiders were wronged. But it wasn't a courtroom at all, it was Raiders headquarters. And the jury was a roomful of reporters covering the firing of coach Lane Kiffin, the owner's fourth such dismissal since 2003 as his team has scraped along the sea floor, compiling an NFL-worst record of 20-64.

The best word to describe UCLA's offensive attack last season is ... weak. The Bruins averaged 294.9 yards of total offense, which ranked 110th out of 117 Division I teams. Their running game was 114th at 2.6 yards a carry. Taking most of the blame for UCLA's offensive woes was a line that started 10 different players. Enter Tom Cable, UCLA's new offensive coordinator and line coach, who was hired after being the head coach at the University of Idaho the previous four seasons.
