Tony Gonzalez has agreed to terms on a five-year contract extension with the Kansas City Chiefs that keeps him the highest-paid tight end in the NFL. The eight-time Pro Bowl player, two touchdown catches short of the league record for his position, will receive about $17 million in guaranteed money, a person close to the negotiations said. The person requested anonymity because he was not authorized to disclose the information.

Whether he's hosting his own television show or playing in an NBA summer league, Kansas City Chief tight end Tony Gonzalez repeatedly has ventured outside his comfort zone to become more diverse. This off-season, that quest took him to another land. Gonzalez, for years embarrassed that he couldn't speak Spanish, spent part of the spring living with a family outside Mexico City to learn the language.

All-Pro tight end Tony Gonzalez might be able to play in the Kansas City Chiefs' first game of the season after an MRI exam revealed no serious damage to his sprained left knee. Chief Coach Dick Vermeil said there were "tiny" tears in the tendons, "the kind you don't repair and you let heal on their own." Gonzalez was injured during practice Tuesday when he was hit as he tried to catch a pass that was thrown behind him. The Chiefs play their last exhibition game tonight against the St.

From the Kansas City Chiefs' first snap to their final play, Julian Peterson was all over Tony Gonzalez -- and everybody else on the San Francisco 49ers' surging defense piled on Priest Holmes. Garrison Hearst and Kevan Barlow each rushed for a touchdown, and San Francisco bottled up Kansas City's offensive stars as the 49ers beat the Chiefs, 17-13, Sunday for their sixth win in seven games.

This would be a good week for Trent Green bashers to give it a rest. With his finest game since 1999, Green threw five touchdown passes--three to Tony Gonzalez--to lead Kansas City past previously unbeaten Miami, 48-30, Sunday. He even ran for 48 yards and threw a textbook block on Priest Holmes' touchdown run. "It's fun to have a day like that," said Green, who completed 24 of 34 passes for 328 yards. "Throw the block in there and that makes it that much more enjoyable."

If the Kansas City Chiefs ever take a comfortable lead into the fourth quarter, they won't know how to act. Sparked by Elvis Grbac's 73-yard completion to Derrick Alexander late in the third period, the Chiefs scored 17 consecutive points Monday night and defeated Seattle, 24-17, for their third consecutive come-from-behind victory. "There's something in the huddle right now," said Grbac, who was 16 of 27 for 256 yards and two touchdowns.

Tony Gonzalez won't lie. Of course he's thinking about starting for the AFC in the Pro Bowl. "If I said that wasn't a dream of mine, I'd be telling you a real whopper," said Kansas City's tight end, who caught six passes for 93 yards and two touchdowns in a 35-19 victory over Pittsburgh on Saturday that gave the Chiefs the lead in the AFC West.

"It felt like a home game out there today," Kansas City tight end Tony Gonzalez said after his team beat the San Diego Chargers, 29-7, on Sunday. He could have been talking about the Chiefs' fans that came close to composing the majority of the 54,594 people in Qualcomm Stadium. Or he could have been talking about that group of 36 family members and friends in the stands.
