The winless Buffalo Bills released fourth-year quarterback Trent Edwards on Monday. Edwards, 26, was selected by the Bills in the third round of the 2007 NFL draft but has struggled with injuries and consistency. The Bills' offense ranked last in the NFL in yards and points after Buffalo lost its first two games when Edwards was then benched in favor of Ryan Fitzpatrick. The Bills lost again, 38-30, to the New England Patriots, on Sunday, but Fitzpatrick completed 20 of 28 passes for 247 yards with two touchdowns and two late interceptions.

Quarterback Trent Edwards was claimed Tuesday by the Jacksonville Jaguars off waivers, according to his agent. The Buffalo Bills waived Edwards on Monday after he lost his starting job to Ryan Fitzpatrick. Edwards, 26, began the season as the Bills quarterback but was benched after throwing for only 241 yards and one touchdown in his first two games, both losses. A former third-round pick from Stanford, Edwards is likely to back up Jaguars starter David Garrard. In his four seasons with Buffalo, Edwards threw for 25 touchdowns and 27 interceptions with a passer rating of 76.8.

PITTSFORD, N.Y. -- Now that he has become the Buffalo Bills' starting quarterback, Trent Edwards is enjoying some of the perks that come with the job. Like accepting an invitation from Wayne Gretzky to play in a charitable golf tournament in June and getting to rub shoulders with the Great One and John Elway. As enjoyable as that was, the compelling memory that Edwards came away with was of a struggling Nationwide Tour player who was in his group during the Pro-Am. "He was staying in a room above a bar and had worked the person down to $60 a night," Edwards recalled.

San Diego Chargers first-year Coach Norv Turner has taken some heat for his team's disappointing start, but he should get some relief against the Kansas City Chiefs today at Qualcomm Stadium. Although both teams have 1-2 records, Kansas City will take the field as a hefty 11.5-point underdog. Why? Because the Chiefs have a bad track record against the spread.

Brady Quinn, benched by Cleveland Browns Coach Eric Mangini 2 1/2 games into the season, will start Monday night's game against the Baltimore Ravens, the team the former Notre Dame star was facing Sept. 27 when he was yanked at halftime. "I'm excited to play," he said. "I'm excited to be part of Monday night." Mangini's decision to switch back from Derek Anderson to Quinn wasn't met with overwhelming support in Cleveland's locker room. Several Browns players interviewed Wednesday said they were unaware of Quinn's return to the top of the depth chart.

Back on center stage, Tom Brady acted like, well, the NFL's biggest star. It seemed to take forever, though. A year after being sidelined with torn knee ligaments, Brady resembled a rusty game manager more than the invincible record-setting quarterback who guided the Patriots to a perfect 2007 regular season. Yet, he threw two touchdown passes in the final 2:06 as New England beat the Buffalo Bills, 25-24, on Monday night. When the spotlight hit, Brady lived up to the advance billing.
