Ron Artest received all the accolades, appropriately enough, after banking in the shot that won a game and possibly turned a playoff series toward the Lakers for good. But buried amid the celebratory mass of players was Kobe Bryant , the one who misfired badly on a three-point attempt with 2.5 seconds left but continually kept the Lakers afloat against the Phoenix Suns, once again coming close to another triple-double. He had 30 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists, the third consecutive game he's missed a triple-double by one or two marks on the stat sheet.

It was more than Blake Griffin's third career triple-double that helped the Clippers roll by the Milwaukee Bucks, 117-101, Wednesday night at Staples Center. To be sure, Griffin's 23 points, 11 rebounds and career-high 11 assists went a very long way in pushing the Clippers to their ninth win in 11 games. "It's exciting and I'm excited," Griffin said. "But at the same time, without my teammates making those shots, it doesn't happen. " And his teammates did make shots, to the tune of 54% from the field.

OK, so it wasn't Miami. Or Boston. Or even Orlando. But the Portland Trail Blazers were supposed to pose some sort of threat to the Lakers' undefeated record against largely underwhelming teams. It didn't happen. In fact, it wasn't close. Pau Gasol had 20 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists, and the Lakers continued to beat up on their opponents ? good, bad or otherwise ? with a 121-96 victory Sunday night over Portland at Staples Center. The Lakers led by 22 at halftime, improved to 7-0 for only the fifth time in franchise history and even got their starters some needed rest.

Watch out for fans with cakes Charlotte Coach Paul Silas , on Kwame Brown , who averaged 9-9 and shot 54% in January, before sliding to 7-7 and 42% since: "I'm so excited for him. He's been much maligned in this league. Now he's playing up to his potential.
