Concerns that Centex Homes, the master developer of Forster Ranch, might renege on an agreement to refurbish the playing field at Truman Benedict Elementary School are unfounded, a company spokesman said Thursday. Centex will make the improvements that it promised to the school, which is in Forster Ranch, said Larry Ludwig, president of Centex's Southern California division. "We are not pulling out of our commitment to Truman Benedict," Ludwig said.

The faces and names remain the same after the Nov. 3 election, but this week members of the City Council shifted seats and unanimously elected Truman Benedict mayor. Scott Diehl, who was reelected to his third four-year term on the council, was unanimously elected mayor pro tem during a meeting Wednesday night.

Complaints about accidents and drag racing near an elementary school prompted the Planning Commission to approve a stop sign for the Forster Ranch community. The approval for the four-way sign at Camino de los Mares and Camino Vera Cruz was applauded by residents of the Forster Casablanca Condominium Assn. The problem, said city traffic engineer Mehran Sepehi, is that the Forster Ranch subdivision is growing rapidly. "We did a study of the situation," Sepehi said.

John Hopkins, principal of Truman Benedict Elementary School in San Clemente, has been appointed temporarily to a position in the Capistrano Unified School District administration. Hopkins became interim director of employee relations this week, succeeding Linda Kroner, who resigned to work for the Saddleback Community College District. Hopkins, a 31-year district employee, has been Benedict principal for four years.

The Capistrano Unified School District board is scheduled today to consider attendance boundary changes and other ways to help ease overcrowding at Arroyo Vista, San Juan and Truman Benedict elementary schools. Each campus has more than 1,000 students, which is roughly 300 more than most other elementary schools in the rapidly growing South County school district.

John Hopkins became interim director of employee relations last week, replacing Linda Kroner, who resigned to take a position with the Saddleback Community College District. Hopkins has been principal at Benedict for four years and an employee of the district for 31 years.

The four coyotes shot and killed after a playground attack on two elementary school children were not rabid, authorities said Thursday. Howard Sutter, spokesman for the Orange County Health Care Agency, said results of tests on the four carcasses were negative. Still to be determined is whether the four animals included the one that attacked two youngsters Tuesday at Truman Benedict Elementary School.
