"The Soul Man," starring Cedric The Entertainer as a former R&B singer who decides to become a preacher, has been renewed by TV Land for a second season. Although the comedy was one of the cable network's high-profile shows, several months passed before TV Land decided to pick up another season. Another TV Land comedy, "The Exes," starring Donald Faison and Kristen Johnson, was picked up for a third season. Both series will return in June with 10 episodes each. Those zombies in "The Walking Dead" have already terrorized the good people of Atlanta. Now they're gobbling down the ratings record books too. AMC's zombie smash has become the first cable series to win the fall TV ratings in the important, advertiser-friendly demographic of viewers ages 18 to 49, according to Nielsen, when DVR playbacks are included. That includes established network series such as "Modern Family," "The Voice" and "The Big Bang Theory," as well as the new fall shows such as "Elementary" and "Revolution.

On a recent Sunday at the First African Methodist Episcopal Church, an overflow crowd gathered hours after services to see a screening of TV Land's "The Soul Man," starring Cedric the Entertainer as a Las Vegas singer who uproots his family and moves to St. Louis after hearing a divine calling to become a pastor. The well-dressed congregants gave a hero's welcome to Cedric, costar Niecy Nash and TV Land head Larry Jones. Their accomplishment? Putting on one of the few television shows that spotlights an African American family.

Andy Griffith may no longer be with us, but his passing is providing an opportunity for cable TV to bring back some of his most beloved work. TV Land plans to air marathons of "The Andy Andy Griffith Show" on Wednesday, July 4, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. ET/PT and on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. ET/PT. That's 46 of the 249 episodes of "The Andy Griffith Show. " Meanwhile, Me-TV plans to honor Griffith's less well known TV guest spots with episodes of"Hawaii Five-O,""Mod Squad," "Gomer Pyle" and the "Make Room For Daddy" ep that featured Griffith as a guest star.
