Carol Lipson had 10 kills Wednesday night to lead the UC San Diego women's volleyball team past Cal State San Bernardino, 11-15, 16-14, 15-3, 15-12, at UCSD. The Tritons, the defending NCAA Division 3 National Champions, improved their record to 16-12 with the victory.

UC San Diego clinched the championship of the U.S. International University's Classic 11 men's soccer tournament with a 4-0 win over St. Mary's College at USIU Saturday afternoon. UCSD defeated USIU, 2-1, Friday. Greg Schwartz, Robert Paterson, Kurt Bell and Scott Weisenberg scored goals for UCSD.

Playing without three of its starters, the Cal State Northridge men's volleyball team was upset by host UC San Diego, 16-14, 11-15, 15-8, 2-15, 15-6 in a nonconference match Saturday night. Kevin Peterson scored a goal at the 64:36 mark to lead UC Irvine to a 1-0 victory over UC San Diego in a men's soccer match Sunday at Irvine. Peterson, a senior forward, scored from 10 feet on a header, with an assist from sophomore Bill Kollias. Goalkeeper Mike Gartlan, who recorded his second shutout of the year, had six saves for the Anteaters (3-5). Brian Siljander had four saves for UC San Diego.

The Cal Lutheran baseball team lost to UC San Diego, 8-5, in the deciding game of the best-of-five NCAA Division III West Regional on Sunday at UC San Diego. Cal Lutheran won the first two games of the series and entered Sunday's games with a 2-1 lead. The Kingsmen lost the first game Sunday, 11-3, setting the stage for the championship. Cal Lutheran scored three runs in the seventh inning of the final game to take a 5-2 lead.
