Kevin Prince's strong recent play as UCLA's quarterback is beginning to affect his father's work. "When Kevin wasn't playing, none of my patients wanted to talk about him," said Stephen Prince, a dentist. "Now, I can't get any work done. I have to tell them, 'I can't do my job if you're talking.' " Prince has led the Bruins to three victories in four games and a share of the lead in the Pac-12 Conference's South Division heading into Saturday afternoon's game at Utah. He did so with gusto, rushing for 163 yards in a 31-14 victory over California.

Reporting from Salt Lake City -- This had a familiar feel, a familiar look, a familiar sound. UCLA Coach Rick Neuheisel went around the locker room after the game cajoling Bruins' players to "stay up, stay up, I need you next week. " Defensive players were perplexed about being run over on the field. The offensive solution was to "execute better," which was an audio loop from player to player. Walking away after a 31-6 loss to Utah on Saturday at Rice-Eccles Stadium, the Bruins could view this as a rerun.

Another week, another must-win game for UCLA. A victory would make the Bruins bowl-eligible and keep UCLA in the hunt for the Pac-12 Conference South Division championship. Utah is also seeking a sixth win and a bowl trip. Staff writer Chris Foster examines the game's key issues and matchups: Old school There are no bigger proponents of the forward pass than UCLA Coach Rick Neuheisel and Utah offensive coordinator Norm Chow. So, of course, both teams are going to run the ball.

All running back Derrick Coleman wanted was one yard. He didn't get it. But he did take away a lesson from a goal-line stand by Stanford last month. UCLA got to the four-yard line on its first drive and came away with nothing. Coleman, a 5-foot-11, 240-pound senior, had two tries at scoring — a one-yard run came up one yard short and a third-down effort ended with him in the arms of three Cardinal players just shy of the goal line. "I didn't get in, that's all I remember," Coleman said.

The college football world has ruled on UCLA's 29-28 victory over No. 20 Arizona State last Saturday. * The Sun Devils were kicked out of every top 25 poll. * UCLA didn't receive one vote in any poll. * Utah, which lost its first four Pacific 12 Conference games, is a 71/2 -point favorite against the Bruins on Saturday. "To be honest, none of that surprises me," UCLA senior defensive tackle Justin Edison said. "There are a lot of non-believers out there who think the Arizona State game was just a fluke.

It's pretty simple. A victory over No. 20 Arizona State on Saturday and UCLA is tied for first place in the Pacific 12 Conference's South Division. The Sun Devils can all but wrap up the division -- and a place in the conference championship game -- with a win. Staff writer Chris Foster examines the game's issues and matchups: Take it away Turnovers are the key to winning -- and losing -- football games. Has there ever been a coach who didn't have that go-to line ready?

Blame it on UCLA. Quarterback Brock Osweiler was perfectly content shuttling between Arizona State's football and basketball programs last season, possibly spreading his gangly 6-foot-8 frame a little too thin. Then the Bruins came to town. On a sunny afternoon in Tempe last November, Osweiler came off the bench and erased a 17-0 UCLA lead, throwing four touchdown passes in a 55-34 victory for the Sun Devils. "Prior to that, I hadn't performed like I had envisioned," said Osweiler, a junior.

UCLA safety Dietrich Riley had "full movement and sensation in all of his extremities," UCLA officials said after Riley was taken off the field on a stretcher during Saturday's 31-14 victory over California. Riley was injured with 10 minutes 41 seconds left in the game, when he collided with Cal running back Isi Sofele. Riley was placed on a back board and taken to Huntington Hospital. "All signs are positive," Coach Rick Neuheisel said. "Every test came back negative. He was in great spirits when he left the field.

Eric Kendricks , UCLA linebacker, remembers the last time California came to the Rose Bowl. He attended the game with other UCLA recruits and was sitting with his father, former Bruins running back Marv Kendricks . Both forgot why they were there when Bears linebacker Mychal Kendricks intercepted a pass late in the game. As his brother ran 68 yards for a touchdown that clinched a 45-26 Cal victory, Kendricks said, "My dad and I jumped in the air and started cheering.

Jerry Rice Jr. gets to be himself this week. That's a big step forward. Rice has had many identities and worn many numbers the last two seasons as a member of UCLA football's scout team. The scout squad is made up of reserves — most of whom have relatively little chance of playing in a game — who impersonate the Bruins' next opponent during workouts. A few weeks back, Rice was Oregon State's James Rodgers. A week later, he was a Washington State receiver — he can't remember which one. But this week, Rice is Rice.
