Spain Put on U.S. 'Watch List' Over Nike Trademark: Spain has been put on the U.S. government's "watch list" of nations that deny protection to U.S. trademarks after Nike Inc. was blocked from selling its apparel in Spain. Spanish courts have sided with Nike's former distributor in Spain, allowing Cidesport SA to continue selling knock-offs of Nike sports and fitness wear under a Nike trademark, Nike spokesman Dusty Kidd said.

A U.S. trade agency said stainless steel imports from Japan, South Korea and Spain have hurt Slater Steel Inc., one of North America's biggest specialty steel makers, clearing the way for duties of as much as 115%. The decision, the latest victory by the U.S. steel industry in its effort to repel imports from the U.S. market, affects such companies as Japan's Sumitomo Metal Industries Ltd., Daido Steel Co. and Aichi Steel Corp.

Beverly Hills Fan Co., a Woodland Hills-based marketer of ceiling fans and lighting accessories, said the Spanish company Evolution B-Lux has agreed to distribute Beverly Hills Fan's products in Spain. Beverly Hills Fan said it is trying to reach a similar agreement with an Italian distributor and plans to begin selling its equipment to a home-improvement retailer in Austria.

Hughes Aircraft's Ground Systems Group has won a $400-million contract from the Navy to supply command and control displays for U.S., Japanese and Spanish warships, the company said Thursday. Most of the displays will be built for the U.S. Navy, but about 11% of the displays will be sold to Japan and 1% to Spain. Hughes has been producing the AN/UYQ-21 display system for the Navy since the late 1970s. The Fullerton division, with 8,900 employees, plans no new hiring because of the contract.
