For 25 years, they have relived that darned run: a 64-yard nightmare for all the UCLA players O.J. Simpson left in his wake on his way to tying a game that had more than roses at stake. Looking back, Vic Lepisto likes to tell people that Simpson became famous on his coattails. Or at least on his back, which Simpson leaped over when Lepisto dove at him but, instead, tackled teammate Andy Herrera.

The Sun Bowl pays participating teams $1 million each, yet UCLA officials say the school will have little or no profit to show for the Bruins' appearance in the Dec. 29 game against Wisconsin. UCLA expects to spend close to $1 million on expenses, including air fare, ground transportation, housing and meals for a traveling party of about 500, Mike Dowling, assistant athletic director, said. During the regular season, the Bruins' traveling party numbers about 125.

UCLA officials Thursday dismissed as premature a report that Jerome Moiso and JaRon Rush will make themselves available for the NBA draft, saying instead that the sophomore forwards have not made decisions on their futures. The Daily News, citing anonymous sources close to the program, said Thursday that Moiso and Rush have ruled out a return to the Bruins in 2000-01, though the players said they have not made a decision.
