UC Davis Medical Center and a local real estate developer said they will each donate $500,000 to Sacramento High School as it prepares to reopen as a charter school this fall. The medical center's donation will be given over five years to buy equipment and develop the School of Health, one of six theme-based academies at the new school. Real estate developer Buzz Oates, a former Sacramento High student, made his gift in memory of friend and classmate Fred Anderson.

An autopsy assistant who took home body parts to practice his dissection skills was sentenced to two years in prison for stealing human remains from the UC Davis Medical Center. David Lawrence Beale, 47, pleaded no contest Monday to stealing human remains and possessing methamphetamine. He was arrested in July 2003 after more than 150 pounds of decomposing body parts were found near his Davis home.

SACRAMENTO When construction workers unearthed several bones behind the UC Davis Medical Center, they may have solved one of the city's longtime mysteries. The bones could be the key to locating former burial grounds used by the Sacramento County Hospital, now the UC Davis Medical Center. Officials believe the grounds were used as a cemetery for paupers and those with no relatives, dating to the 19th century.
