Police have identified the body of a man found Thursday by a county work crew as Carlos Huerta Villavicencio, 28, of San Clemente. Villavicencio had been shot several times in the upper torso with a small-caliber gun, according to Orange County Sheriff's Lt. Dan Martini. The body was found at the base of a 25-foot dirt embankment along La Pata Road, 200 yards east of Ortega Highway.

A man was killed and a woman wounded in El Monte early Saturday when a gunman walked up to their parked car and began shooting, authorities said. The man and woman were parked in the 11300 block of Medina Court about 12:30 a.m. when the suspect "shot into the vehicle several times," the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said. The man, who was sitting in the driver's seat, was struck several times in the upper torso and pronounced dead at the scene, sheriff's officials said.

An unidentified Latino man was shot and killed outside the Club Chil Sun Bar in Stanton early Tuesday, authorities said. The man, who had no identification, was shot once in the upper torso and was dead at the scene, 9061 Cerritos Ave. "It would appear he may have been involved in some type of altercation or fight with an unknown person or persons before he was shot," Sheriff's Lt. Richard J. Olson said Tuesday. "Investigators have not found anyone yet who saw the actual incident," Olson said.

A man shot and killed by sheriff's deputies Thursday night in Santa Clarita was wielding a spear, running in and out of traffic -- striking at least one passing vehicle with the weapon -- and later pulling out a knife, authorities said. Witnesses flagged down two deputies on patrol at about 8:25 p.m. near the intersection of Shangri -La Drive and Soledad Canyon Road and told them about the man, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. HOMICIDE REPORT: A story for every victim The man, who was not immediately identified, was found standing on a center median with a metal spear and "behaving strangely," the Sheriff's Department said.

Police are looking into the death of a man found on a Hollywood sidewalk, authorities said Sunday. A passerby called police about 10:50 p.m. Saturday to report that the man was lying unconscious outside a building at the intersection of El Centro Avenue and Santa Monica Boulevard. Police said the man appeared to be homeless "The man had a wound to his upper torso," said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Rosario Herrera. She said it was unknown whether the man was shot or stabbed.

Police today are looking for a killer who fired several shots into another man at a Vietnamese restaurant in Garden Grove Tuesday night. Tu Van Nguyen, 34, was shot several times in the upper torso about 10:30 p.m. after he and an unidentified man sitting at another table at the Phu Khanh Seafood Restaurant at 10557 Bolsa Ave. began to argue and then to fight, Sgt. Kenneth Whitley said. Police don't know if the two men knew each other. During the scuffle the man pulled out a gun, fired several shots at Nguyen and then fled, Whitley said.

Sheriff's detectives are investigating the death of a man whose body was discovered early Wednesday morning in a deep ravine off Little Tujunga Road, one mile north of Foothill Boulevard. The man had multiple puncture wounds on his back and upper torso. He was found by a resident of the area whose car skidded off the road Tuesday night, officials said. A 25-year-old man was found shot to death Saturday morning behind the North Hollywood apartment he shared with his parents, authorities said. Dmitriy Dzhanidze was shot an unknown number of times in his upper torso, said Det. Mike Coffey of the Los Angeles Police Department. Investigators have few clues in the shooting, which occurred in the 6100 block of Whitsett Avenue about 1:30 a.m., he said.

A 17-year-old boy climbing security bars on a View Park residence was shot and killed by sheriff's deputies Wednesday after he tried to flee, then pointed a gun at an officer, authorities said. Deputies responded to a call about a prowler in the 4600 block of Brynhurst Avenue at 4 a.m. and saw that the suspect was holding a small, semiautomatic pistol, authorities said. Officers talked to the teenager for several minutes, trying to get him to drop the gun.

The shooting was reported about 11:20 p.m. in the 700 block of South McDonnell Avenue, near Whittier Boulevard, said Deputy Aura Sierra of the L.A. County Sheriff's Department. The teen, identified by coroner officials as Jessy Acosta, got into a fight at the party with a man between the ages of 17 and 21, authorities said. The man pulled out a handgun and shot Jessy in the upper torso, then fled, Sierra said.

A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy shot and killed a man who allegedly tried to take the officer's gun Saturday night in Cudahy, authorities said. Deputies responded at about 10 p.m. to a report of a brewing fight "at which a man was seen with a gun" in the 4400 block of Elizabeth Street , according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. Deputies learned that the "suspect may have fled the location" in a car, and a deputy pulled over a vehicle matching the description on Walnut Street, according to the sheriff's department.

A 20-year-old man suspected of shooting and killing a Long Beach resident over the weekend has been taken into custody. Derome Harper was arrested early Sunday morning in the case that police say began with a dispute between the two men in the 1200 block of Phillips Street. When Jamal Lindsey, 18, got into a car to leave the scene about 9:10 p.m. Saturday, Harper allegedly opened fire, “striking him multiple times in the upper torso,” according to the Long Beach Police Department.

A 39-year-old man surfing off the Santa Barbara County coast was killed Tuesday in a shark attack that occurred off the same beach where a bodyboarder was killed two years ago. Francisco Javier Solorio Jr. of nearby Orcutt was dragged by a friend onto the beach after he suffered a massive bite on his upper torso that turned the water around him red, Santa Barbara County sheriff's officials said. He died at the scene. "His friend saw the shark bite him," said Sgt. Mark Williams.
