USA Biomass Corp., a waste processor that has contracts with Waste Management Inc. and Allied Waste Industries Inc., filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection, saying it does not have enough cash. The Bell Gardens company said it filed voluntary petitions in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Los Angeles. The company was not available for comment. USA Biomass in 1998 changed its name from AMCOR Capital Corp., which was one of the largest producers and shippers of table grapes in the U.S.

USA Biomass Corp. said Thursday it has agreed to acquire Brea Green Recycling Inc., a Brea recycler. Financial terms were not disclosed. USA Biomass, based in Bell Gardens, has green waste recycling operations in Los Angeles and San Bernardino counties.

* Jakks Pacific Inc., a Malibu-based toy marketer, reported record fourth-quarter net income of $9.0 million, or 49 cents per share, compared with $1.5 million, or 14 cents, a year ago. The EPS results reflected 18.4 million weighted average shares outstanding this quarter vs. 11.8 million. Revenue rose to $62.5 million from $23.9 million in the period. * * USA Biomass Corp. said it plans to acquire closely held San Diego-based American Waste Transport Inc.

* USA Biomass Corp. has appointed Lance B. Jones president and chief executive. He succeeds Fred Behrens, former chairman and CEO, who has resigned from the company for personal reasons. Jones is the president of Lance B. Jones & Associates, environmental consultants. Bell Gardens-based USA Biomass recently converted from an agricultural/real estate development enterprise to an Beverly Macy environmental and waste recycling company.
