More than 360 master drawings and watercolors and two small paintings by Durer and Goya, presumed lost forever from a German museum during World War II, are about to be returned to the museum by a former Soviet army officer who carried them to Moscow in a suitcase 45 years ago for safekeeping. According to Siegfried Salzmann, director of the Bremen Kunsthalle in West Germany, the works were rescued from mold and from pilfering Germans and Soviet soldiers at the end of the war by Viktor Baldin.
