Amy Meyer was standing outside a slaughterhouse in Draper City, Utah, in February and said she saw what she had suspected: wounded animals being dragged to their deaths. Then she did what she had come for in this YouTube age and took out her cellphone to record it. Meyer was charged with a misdemeanor in connection with the incident, accused of violating a controversial new law in the Beehive State that forbids the recording of unauthorized photos or videos of agricultural operations.

Will the Lakers make the playoffs? According to sports book Bovada , the Lakers are the prohibitive favorite to beat out the Utah Jazz. Bovada gives Utah relatively scant odds at 3-to-1 compared to 1-to-5 odds for the Lakers. The Jazz (41-38) are a single game behind the eighth-place Lakers (42-37). Given that Utah owns the tiebreaker, one loss from the Lakers would give the Jazz the opportunity to climb into the postseason. Utah hosts the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday.

On the first school day after the Newtown, Conn., shooting, an 11-year-old boy brought a gun to his Utah elementary school, apparently fearful a similar massacre could happen there, officials said Tuesday. Granite School District spokesman Ben Horsley said the sixth-grader at West Kearns Elementary School allegedly waved a .22-caliber handgun at three students Monday during a lunch recess. The students were on a soccer field at the time, he said. The student told police he brought the gun for protection in the wake of the Connecticut school shooting that left 20 first-graders dead, Horsley said.

The young girls in Tooele, Utah, are rolling their eyes as if to say “what-EVER” after they were turned away from their homecoming dance because chaperones thought their dresses were too short. And while the fuddy-duddy adults have struck again -- the kids eventually ended up on the winning side. Stansbury High principal Kendall Topham has apologized to dozens of teenage girls, including the homecoming queen, for ruining their special night.    The school's handbook states that dresses for formal events should be "at or near knee length," leaving room for interpretation.
