A woman sent to prison for killing her husband in 1989 was convicted Wednesday of murdering her 67-year-old mother. Vanessa Walker, 44, and her husband, Ken, 40, both of Palmdale, were tried before separate juries for the 2001 slaying of her mother, Nada Lazarevic, whose body was found dumped in Sequoia National Forest.

A Palmdale woman, who with her husband is accused of killing her mother for an inheritance and to escape debt, was previously convicted of voluntary manslaughter in Northern California, prosecutors said Wednesday. Vanessa Walker, 41, was convicted in 1989 in connection with the death of her first husband in Contra Costa County, according to an amended felony complaint filed Wednesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court.

By all accounts, Nada Lazarevic was generous to her daughter and son-in-law. The 67-year-old Lancaster seamstress co-signed for one of Vanessa and Ken Walker's credit cards, made a down payment on their house, helped finance their new car and paid for an expensive but short-lived move to Oregon. Despite the financial support, Los Angeles sheriff's homicide detectives say the couple amassed up to $50,000 in debts.

A Palmdale woman was sentenced Tuesday to 35 years to life in prison for murdering her mother. Vanessa Walker, 44, was convicted in the 2001 beating death of 67-year-old Nada Lazarevic of Lancaster, whose body was found dumped off a remote road in Kern County. Both Walker and her husband, Ken Walker, 40, were found guilty of second-degree murder. He was sentenced last month to 15 years to life in prison. Superior Court Judge Terry A.

Proceeds will go to the Orange County Musicians Foundation, the charity organized to help uninsured local musicians pay medical bills.
