Bracing for a summer of blackouts and skyrocketing electricity bills, Ventura County business leaders have launched a campaign to conserve power while pressuring state and local officials to find a way out of the energy crisis. Backed by county business and political leaders, campaign organizers say their goal is to offer ways of conserving power, remind manufacturers and residents the looming summer blackouts are no mirage and give the region a stronger voice in Sacramento and Washington.

Two Century City high-rises that traded hands less than two years ago are for sale again as their owners look to take advantage of increased values and what may be peak market conditions. Westside real estate professionals expect that Divco West Properties and Bentall Corp. will make substantial profits as they sell the 20-story 1901 Avenue of the Stars and 21-story 1888 Century Park East towers, respectively. The sales efforts come amid expectations of a slowdown in Southland office-tenant growth and a downsizing among Westside dot-com tenants.

Midway Drilling & Pump Co. in Saticoy was awarded a $9,001 contract from Ventura County to repair Pump 4 at the Hueneme Pump Station. The work, in the Ormond Beach area in Port Hueneme, involves removal and replacement of a worn bowl assembly. Work is scheduled to begin this month and be completed Nov. 9. * Oilfield Electric Co. in Ventura was awarded a $7,561 contract from Ventura County to do electrical repairs at the Hueneme Pump Station in the Ormond Beach area of Port Hueneme.

Bank of Ventura has once again been rated a "Premier Performing" bank by the Findley Reports. Findley publishes an annual analysis of financial institutions in California, providing comparisons and evaluation of performance. Bank of Ventura's ranking was based on 1998 performance and growth in assets, net operating income, low loan losses and return on equity. It is located at 5808 Telephone Road in Ventura.

YARC Systems Corp. in Camarillo, which specializes in Internet-based color-printing technologies, has completed the acquisition of Nevada-based Quality Photographic Imaging. Quality Photographic will operate as a division of YARC.
