Blink, and you might miss Victor Hall. One minute he could be streaking to victory in the 100 meters for the Monroe High track team. The next minute, after ducking into the nearest phone booth to change uniforms, he will be flagging down a fly ball in the gap as center fielder for the Viking baseball team. Hall, a high-school version of Deion Sanders, not only plays both sports, but is beginning to attract attention in both.

Whenever the struggling Los Angeles Avengers, who have lost all of their three games, believe they are going through tough times, they'd better check in with Victor Hall. Now in his seventh Arena Football League season, Hall, 31, has overcome more obstacles than most people would in three lifetimes. A 6-foot-4, 265-pound lineman and tight end, he has gone through two shoulder surgeries, reconstructive ankle surgery, thumb surgery and Achilles' tendon surgery to keep playing football.
