Michael Goland, a longtime pro-Israel political activist and San Fernando Valley businessman, was sentenced in federal court in Los Angeles Wednesday to two years in prison for secretly arranging in 1986 a $1.5-million takeover of Viking Savings & Loan, a Santa Monica thrift that failed in 1989 and was sold by the government to Westside Savings & Loan. U.S. District Judge Edward Rafeedie agreed to allow Goland, 44, to remain free pending appeal.
