It has always been a challenge to know what, exactly, to think of the saga of Mary Kay Letourneau , the schoolteacher from a scandal-plagued Orange County political family who went to prison for sexually abusing the 12-year-old boy who later became her husband. (Just typing that makes me wince.) But of all the things that could land her back in jail, who would have guessed unpaid parking tickets? Monday, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported that Letourneau, 51, was arrested on suspicion of driving with a suspended license, and booked into King County jail.

A teacher who became notorious in the 1990s for having an affair with a sixth-grader is hosting a "Hot for Teacher" night at a Seattle bar -- along with the former student, now her husband. Bar owner Mike Morris said that Mary Kay Letourneau had served her sentence and that it was OK for the couple to have some fun. Mary Kay Letourneau, the former schoolteacher who had two children by the student she was convicted of raping, quietly walked out of prison Wednesday. After serving 7 1/2 years for child rape, Letourneau, 42, slipped unseen past the gathered international media camped outside the Washington Corrections Center for Women about 24 miles southwest of Seattle. She maintains that the relationship with her student -- who was 12 when she began having sexual contact with him -- was mutual love.
