Vincent Kartheiser has a face that's launched a thousand GIFs. As smarmy Pete Campbell on AMC's "Mad Men," the 34-year-old actor has presented no shortage of brilliant verbalization , fumbles , and foot coordination for those with a hankering for the animated image format. Now the man with the smug face (that does well with a punch ), has opted to hide it for another form of animation: cartoons. Kartheiser lends his voice to  "Axe Cop" and "High School U.S.A.," two shows launching Fox's Animation Domination High-Def (ADHD)

Currently nominated for 16 Emmys and the winner of last year's award for outstanding drama series, "Mad Men" -- which begins its third season Sunday night on AMC -- isn't basic cable's first prestige show. There is "Rescue Me," for instance, which recently finished its fifth season. But it has come to stand for the good work that can be done there. And like "Rescue Me," it is more intense for having to be a little circumspect about things that premium cable delights in making explicit -- a strategy that appropriately reflects its themes and the more conservative time in which it's set. The new season opens with a pair of naked feet in the light of an open refrigerator; they belong to Don Draper (Jon Hamm)

"Alaska" is a well-crafted, typical family adventure featuring spectacular natural scenery, an adorable polar bear cub, two believable youngsters and a witty turn by Charlton Heston as a rugged, decidedly heartless villain.

"MAD MEN" appears like a smoke-shrouded blast from a past never before seen on television. The Madison Avenue advertising men are a band of suited snakes, desperate, ambitious and charming. Anyone who doesn't fit into their world -- minorities, women, gays -- is made to feel the sting. While "Men" shows us the harsher side of life in 1960, it all plays out against an exquisitely rendered setting, from the offices of Sterling Cooper to the suburban home of adman Don Draper (Jon Hamm).

Those who manage to make it through to the end of "Crime + Punishment inSuburbia" may well feel that the "crime" was that it was made in the first place and the "punishment" is having to watch it. Jonathan Kaplan's unsettling 1979 "Over the Edge" was a groundbreaker in the depiction of alienated kids at loose in an arid new tract-house community, and when it comes to dissecting the dysfunctional suburban family, "American Beauty" would be hard to top.
