SAN FRANCISCO -- Facebook will soon begin testing VIP-only features that make it easier for celebrities to keep close tabs on social media chatter and reach out to fans from mobile devices. The features are designed to get Page Sixers to spend more time on Facebook. In other words, Facebook is looking to borrow some of that Justin Bieber magic from a popular online celebrity hangout: Twitter. With 200 million active users, Twitter does not have the heft of Facebook. But it currently reigns as the digital king of public conversations, having made it simple and snappy for celebs to monitor what social media followers are saying about them and talk back to those followers at opportune moments.

Halfway through his set at the Belmont on night one of the South by Southwest music festival in Austin, Queens, N.Y., rapper Action Bronson left the stage and entered the crowd of hundreds scrunched onto the outdoor patio. Bronson, a hulking man with a shaved head and bushy beard, looks more like a dockworker than an emcee, and as he squeezed through the crowd, microphone in hand, he was easy to track by the fans watching from the balcony: Glowing smartphone screens encircled him, shooting photos and taking video.

During a honeymoon trip to Los Angeles, Chris Hansen and his new wife, Shoni, decided not to skimp on their visit to Universal Studios Hollywood. They booked a pricey tour for the theme park that included a buffet lunch, an escort to the front of the line of every ride and a behind-the-scene visit to the property and wardrobe departments on the studio's television and movie lot. The experience set the couple back $299 each, compared with the regular $80 admission price. But they didn't complain.

LAS VEGAS - Britney Spears was barely 10 feet away from me, dancing a sexy routine to "Freakshow. " She catches my eye and summons me closer to the stage from my seat in the audience. And no, this wasn't a dream. It was at one of her recent shows at Planet Hollywood's Axis theater, in front of a few thousand fans. One of Spears' dancers ushers me on stage. Before I know it, my arms are hoisted into the air by dancers in skimpy dominatrix costumes and Spears is closing in on me. No, there isn't a ticket you can buy to be whipped around by the pop star.

I used the Bags VIP delivery service to pick up my checked luggage at the airport on a recent trip to New York. Although the clerk at JetBlue said he knew nothing about how to affix the green Bags VIP sticker, his supervisor did. The scene in New York City is such that my bag arrived at my hotel before I did. I wish it picked up luggage at home and not just at airports, but the service is reasonable, friendly and efficient. One bag, $29.95; two bags, $39.95; three-eight bags, $49.95.

When the "Breaking Bad" finale ended, the "Breaking Bad" party went into high gear. The sold-out screening of the finale of "Breaking Bad" at Hollywood Forever Cemetery served as the opening act for Aaron Paul's loud and jubilant VIP after-party to celebrate the end of the series that established him as one of Hollywood's hottest stars. The party was the conclusion of an event staged by Paul, who played troubled junkie Jesse Pinkman on the series, and his wife Lauren to benefit the Kind Campaign, a movement and school program bringing awareness and healing to the problem of girl-against-girl crime and bullying.

Two hijackers who commandeered a jetliner from Sudan's Darfur region and diverted it to a remote desert airstrip in Libya surrendered and freed all hostages after a daylong standoff, officials said. Sudan's consul in the Sahara desert oasis of Kufra, where the plane landed, said the two Darfur men were brought into the airport's VIP lounge. Also freed were crew members whom the hijackers had continued to hold even after releasing 87 passengers earlier. The diplomat, Mohammed Balla Othman, who spoke to the Associated Press by telephone from the VIP room, said that in the last stages of negotiations, the hijackers were asking for asylum in Libya.
