What can you see in Italy in a week? Plenty, and you won't have to pay a fortune either. Virgin Vacations offers an eight-day rail package (without airfare) that starts at $469 a person. The deal: The trip price is based on double occupancy. It features two nights each in Venice, Florence and Rome where you can set your own sightseeing pace or pay for a night or daytime tour. Participants take the train from city to city via passes included in the package. It starts in Venice and ends in Rome; you can make your own flight arrangements or ask for a quote from Virgin Vacations.

Virgin Vacations is cutting the price of two Danube River cruises by $1,000 per person for fall sailings. The October and November itineraries travel from Germany to Hungary while following the European river for a sampling of cities and towns.  The deal: Discounts apply to the 11-day Nov. 14 tour and cruise from Budapest , Hungary to Nuremberg, Germany. Participants spend two nights in Budapest before boarding the Sound of Music for seven nights. The ship has just 64 cabins, and the price includes meals, drinks and shore excursions.

Virgin Vacations has a "Barcelona at Its Best" package with flight and hotel for six nights starting from $1,111 per person from LAX, including tax. The price is $799 per person if you fly from New York. The deal: The offer is based on double occupancy. Barcelona is not the only European city included in the sale. Virgin Vacations has an assortment of packages priced low for last-minute travel in April to Prague, Czech Republic; Madrid; Dublin, Ireland; Paris; and other destinations.
