In response to the column by Joel Fox (Column Right, Commentary, March 31), I would like to mention some significant facts about Proposition 13. Fox stated that "if proposed increases (in taxes) piled up a surplus, the state would be ripe for a replay of Proposition 13." This comment is quite interesting since it was Proposition 13 that played a key role in the financial disaster that faces the residents of California today!

The South Coast Symphony closed its seventh season with a program that underscored the strengths--and weaknesses--of the orchestra's individual players. Sunday's concert at the Irvine Barclay Theatre consisted of two large works: Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" and Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition." The soloist for Vivaldi's concertos was concertmaster Vladimir Polimatidi, who proved to be a strong orchestral player but an uninspired soloist.

Eight Orange County music groups and presenting organizations--including a new chamber orchestra--will play at the new Irvine Theatre during its inaugural 1990-91 season, theater general manager Douglas C. Rankin announced Wednesday. The organizations range from the new Irvine Chamber Orchestra, which will hold its first concert on March 19, 1991, to the UC Irvine Chamber Music Series, which has booked six dates beginning Nov. 4.
