Regarding "Bree Walker Blasts KFI's Baby Talk" (Calendar, Aug. 17): The KFI-AM show with Jane Norris disputing Walker's right to have a child has disturbed me for weeks. I don't think Norris "handled this with a lot of sensitivity," as she claims. She stomped on a female caller who told her that the show's viewpoint was bordering on fascism. Norris squelched the caller's opinion so soundly that anyone would need guts to call in and differ with her opinion. I believe in free speech, and, yes, I realize KFI hosts (like Action News)

The 21.6 miles of bike path featured in the May 19 Westside section is exactly the same 14-foot width from Pacific Palisades to Torrance. The 1.5-mile segment in Pacific Palisades, however, has a designated walker path included in that width. Then, the walker portion is arbitrarily painted away and the bike path is suddenly expanded. I have often wondered why this is so. Why not extend the walker portion for the full length of the path? Then everyone would travel single file in peace and order.

I am a walker. I like to walk in my neighborhood. I like to walk in the city. I like to walk in the mountains. A walker is not like a jogger, a runner or other exercise buffs. There is no goal to meet, no time constraints imposed, no performance comparison to be made. A walker wishes to see and be seen, to be involved with his surroundings. A walker notices the uneven texture of the sidewalk, the sound of leaves rustling in the wind, the smell of a fireplace on a cool autumn evening.

His popularity among GOP true believers was so great that he upstaged Mitt Romney when Walker and the Republican presidential hopeful spoke in late March at the same party dinner a few nights before the Wisconsin primary. So the Romney campaign knew better than to let Walker do it again Monday at a Romney rally here in a sweltering textile mill. The solution: Have the two introduced simultaneously, letting Romney bask in the Walker-style whoops and cheers that he sometimes has trouble drawing on his own. The task fell to Dan Sinykin, chief executive of Monterey Mills, a maker of fabric for paint rollers and stuffed animals.

Federal prosecutors at the trial of accused spy Jerry Whitworth tried to show Wednesday that Whitworth knew that Soviet agents were buying secret documents he stole from the Navy during a nine-year period. John A. Walker Jr., the admitted spy ring leader, testified that Whitworth obtained a year's worth of secret messages during his tour on the aircraft carrier Enterprise in 1982 and 1983, some of which related to a sensitive mission off the Soviet Union's Kamchatka Peninsula.
