Authorities on Saturday identified two men killed in a workplace shooting at a Southern California Edison office in Irwindale, as well as the gunman, who investigators said was a co-worker. Robert Scott Lindsay, 53, of Chino Hills and Henry Serrano, 56, of Walnut were killed Friday when Andre Turner, 48, of Norco opened fire in the office with a semiautomatic handgun, then took his own life. Two others, Angela Alvarez, 46, of Glendale, an Edison employee, and Abhay Pimpale, 38, of Montebello, a contract worker, were wounded and in critical condition.

Occasionally they would knock on a neighbor's door to borrow tools or ask for help with a maintenance issue. But for the most part, the Buddhist nuns on Marcon Drive in Walnut kept to the ranch-style house where they lived and worshiped. For 10 years, the young women with the shaved heads and long robes were accepted as part of an eclectic neighborhood of single-family homes, a middle school, a spacious public park and four churches — one Mormon, one Lutheran and two catering to Korean American Christians.

Last year, while she was recovering from a second surgery on her right foot, Brittany Viola considered that her diving career might be over. And it's not as if she has no plans for the rest of her life. The 24-year-old, who is the daughter of former major league pitcher Frank Viola, has her degree from University of Miami. Her major was electronic media and sports administration. "I want to do something in sports," Viola said Saturday at the Spieker Athletics Center at UCLA. But for the near future anyway, that "something in sports" is still going to be diving.

A proposal to replace 835 oak, sycamore and walnut trees with 199,000 new interment spaces at a prominent Hollywood Hills cemetery near Griffith Park is at the heart of a controversy over the future of what little remains of the Los Angeles area's undeveloped wildlife habitat. Forest Lawn Memorial-Parks & Mortuaries wants to develop 120 acres of its grounds because its existing expanse of carefully manicured lawns has nearly run out of room for interments in grassy havens with names like "Ascending Dawn" and "Vale of Hope.

I've always loved Passover, ever since I was a little girl. Long before I understood it as the Festival of Freedom that celebrates the ancient Israelites' exodus from slavery in Egypt, to me it was the holiday of difference. Indeed, it was — and still is — a time to join together for a ritual meal called a Seder, at which we ask ourselves: "Why is this night different from all other nights?"
