"Da Vinci's Demons": Just as "Spartacus" breathes its last, Starz may have a new spring/summer hit here. With a creator versed in both big box office ("The Dark Knight") and gamer spectacle ("Call of Duty: Black Ops), the show puts one of history's most famous and revered artists into an action hero-like context, complete with secret societies and a mystical text. Oh, and this being Starz, plenty of sex 'n violence. It's great fun, romping through Renaissance Florence and Tuscany on the tunictails of Leonardo (Tom Riley)

There may be no more famous stunt in all of silent film than Harold Lloyd hanging from the hands of a huge clock overlooking downtown Los Angeles in 1923's "Safety Last!" Though his star has eclipsed a bit, Lloyd has always been considered one of the great silent clown triumvirate along with Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton. On April 18, in honor of the film's 90th anniversary, it will be possible to see a brand-new digital transfer of that celebrated film at 7:30 p.m. at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, part of Film Independent's screening series there.

Caroline Wozniacki, the former No. 1 women's tennis player in the world, took part in the Masters par-three tournament on Wednesday when she caddied for boyfriend Rory McIlroy, who happens to be the No. 2 golfer in the world behind Tiger Woods. Although they denied for the longest time that they were a couple, the Wozniacki-McIlroy romance has been very public lately with each putting in appearances at the other's tournaments. On Wednesday during the festive par-three event, Wozniacki donned white coveralls and hauled McIlroy's golf bag around.

If Denard Robinson is still hoping an NFL team will give him a shot as a pro quarterback, he better pray no scouts watched his ceremonial first pitch before Tuesday's Detroit Tigers-Toronto Blue Jays game. Robinson, the ex-Michigan quarterback who set an NCAA record for rushing yards, will probably continue to be dogged with questions about his throwing accuracy after one-hopping his pitch about midway to home plate. The 2013 NFL draft hopeful didn't look like he put much effort into the throw and was seen joking afterward with his catcher, Tigers pitcher Drew Smyly.

If you have ever arrived at a hospital writhing in agony and had the six faces of the "Wong-Baker Pain Assessment Scale" thrust in front of you, you know that the medical profession's understanding of pain is, shall we say, in a rudimentary state. But a new study suggests there may be a more revealing way to communicate the experience of pain than pointing to a grimacing stick-figure face with furrowed brows and some tears. A group of scientists at the University of Michigan have succeeded in using functional magnetic resonance imaging to tease apart the brain's consistent response to physical pain from its very similar response to emotional pain.

Rick Pitino had just coached his way to his second NCAA men's basketball title Monday night, hours after learning he had been named to basketball's Hall of Fame, days after his horse won the Santa Anita derby and less than a week after his son landed the head coaching job at Minnesota. What could possibly go wrong in the charmed life of the Louisville coach? Everything -- or at least that's what Pitino apparently thought for a split second immediately after his Cardinals beat Michigan, 82-76, in the national title game.

Kevin Ware is forever going to be linked to this year's NCAA basketball tournament. Unfortunately, the image many of us have of him is one that is sure to make us cringe. We've all seen the video by now, of the Louisville guard awkwardly coming down on his leg while trying to block a shot. The injury that followed is one that probably won't be forgotten by the millions who have seen for a long, long time. But maybe we can replace it with a much happier one. After all, Ware didn't wallow around in self pity.

Jackie Robinson changed baseball and the nation that loves it on April 15, 1947, when he became the first black player to walk onto a major league ball field. He changed Carl Erskine's life in March 1948, when Robinson, by then a Brooklyn Dodgers star, sought out the minor leaguer after watching him pitch and told him, "You're going to be with us real soon!" And so he was - they were teammates through much of he Dodgers' legendary 1950s. The Robinson biopic "42" is mostly about matters that happened before they met, but Erskine knows what happened afterward: He pitched and won the first Dodger game in L.A., retired in 1959 to his hometown in Indiana, and watched the nation gradually understand the life lessons he later wrote about in "What I Learned from Jackie Robinson.

As a student at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Timothy Harlan was often struck by how little the medical professionals around him seemed to know about healthful eating. Doctors would tell their patients what foods to avoid, but rarely did they advise them on the foods they should embrace. It seemed strange to Harlan, who had been a foodie since childhood and opened his own French bistro, Le Petit Cafe, when he was 22. So Harlan-the-medical-student channeled Harlan-the-chef and wrote “It's Heartly Fare,” a guide to healthful eating.
