Stephen F. Hull has joined Fluor Corp., an Irvine global engineering, construction and diversified services company, as vice president and treasurer. He will have responsibility for the company's risk management, real estate, trust investments and treasury operations divisions. Hull was previously with Hughes Aircraft Co. for 13 years, most recently as vice president and treasurer for Hughes Communications.

As Crown Bancorp prepares for what could be a bitter battle for corporate control, it has signed up a new public relations agency. Fledgling Cotton-Morrow Communications will now handle PR and advertising for Crown and its two subsidiaries, the Bank of Coronado and Capital Bank of Carlsbad. It's something of a shuffle: The Stoorza Co. handled Crown through the spring, until officials fashioned a cost-cutting plan and gave the agency its leave.

But after sacking its top management and slashing costs, the Orange County company last year ranked among California's most profitable public companies. Costa Mesa-based Abbey is No. 3 on this year's Times 100 list, based on its two-year average return on shareholder equity of 54.2%. The ranking is the highest ever by an Orange County company in the seven years The Times has compiled the annual guide.
