We've all been there, right? You've just bought your first Hawaiian island. Your own little slice of paradise.  But now what do you do with it? Larry Ellison, billionaire, yacht racer, chief executive of Oracle Corp., has been grappling with this dilemma ever since he bought the Hawaiian island of Lanai back in June 2012.  PHOTOS: 10 ways to use the sharing economy Now, however, he appears to have figured it out. And the recently launched Love Lanai website gives us a glimpse into his plans.  Among the highlights: Ellison will be holding some international festivals on the island, including the Lanai International Film Festival in 2015.

California could become the next state to restrict the publishing of jail booking photos by websites for commercial purposes. State Sen. Jerry Hill (D-San Mateo) on Friday introduced legislation that would outlaw websites that publish mug shots and arrest records and charge money to remove them.  The bill would not restrict the distribution of mug shots and arrest records to media outlets and interested individuals. Mug shot publishing websites are part of a growing cottage industry ; the sites make money reminding people of their run-ins with the law. They operate legally, but several lawsuits have been filed in at least three states alleging that the practice of charging people to remove records from the sites is tantamount to extortion.

Ross William Ulbricht was indicted Tuesday on charges that he operated the billion-dollar Silk Road website where customers used Bitcoins to buy and sell drugs. The indictment for Ulbricht, 29, who authorities said was known by his Internet moniker "Dread Pirate Roberts," includes a new charge, of engaging in a "continuing criminal enterprise. " The count carries a maximum life sentence and a mandatory minimum term of 20 years, said Preet Bharara, the U.S. attorney in Manhattan. Ulbricht was also indicted on previous charges of conspiracy to commit computer hacking and conspiracy to launder money.

State Controller John Chiang has asked every public school district in the state to provide salary and benefit information for all employees and elected officials so that it can be posted on the Web and shared with the public. Chiang has said that making the salary information easy to access on a state Web page is another step toward government transparency in the wake of the 2010 salary scandal in Bell. The controller mailed a letter Monday to 58 county offices of education, 949 school districts and 992 charter schools, requesting the information in no later than 90 days.

Indiegogo, one of the top crowdfunding websites, announced Tuesday that it had raised $40 million in its latest round of funding from investors. The San Francisco start-up is used by entrepreneurs to raise funds for projects and products from users on the Web. The company said it would use the additional funds to continue expanding onto mobile devices, as it currently does not have any mobile apps. Indiegogo said the funding would also be used to continue expanding globally. However, the 85-person company already has a large international presence.

NEW YORK - The federal government has arrested one of the biggest names in the bitcoin community in the latest crackdown on digital currencies and their illicit use. Charlie Shrem, chief executive of digital currency exchange BitInstant, stands accused with a Florida man of laundering money through a notorious drug-trafficking website. Shrem is also vice chairman of the Bitcoin Foundation, a nonprofit group aimed at promoting the digital currency. He and codefendant Robert M. Faiella of Cape Coral, Fla., are accused of selling more than $1 million worth of bitcoins to people attempting to buy and sell illegal drugs on the Silk Road website, which the FBI shut down in October.
