Patricia S. Warren has been named senior vice president and chief financial officer for the Western division of Cigna Healthplans of California, Glendale. Warren replaces David S. Weigley, who has resigned.

Pacific and New Mexico State are the Big West Conference men's basketball coaches' preseason favorites to win their divisions. Pacific, which returns four starters, got seven first-place votes to finish first in the Western Division. Long Beach State, the defending conference champion, received five votes. In the Eastern Division, New Mexico State got seven first-place votes to Utah State's five. The conference is divided into divisions beginning this season.

 In the Western Division, where Gardena Serra and West Hills Chaminade are the teams to beat, there are other teams trying to prepare to challenge the Cavaliers and Eagles. One team is Lompoc, which improved to 3-1 after a 44-21 win over Dos Pueblos. Junior running back Derrick Portis is beginning to earn respect. He rushed for 177 yards in 17 carries and scored three touchdowns. He's averaging 8.4 yards per carry on the season. A.J. Florez added 163 yards in 22 carries and scored three touchdowns.

 Standout running back Donovan Lee from Western Division champion Chaminade has committed to Colorado. He's the second Eagles player to commit to Colorado, joining linebacker Rick Gamboa.

  All-CIF quarterback Ty Gangi of St. Francis will attend Colorado as a preferred walk-on, Coach Jim Bonds said Friday. Gangi helped the Golden Knights reach the Western Division semifinals.
