College football recruiters have suddenly concluded that Chris Brown, a senior offensive lineman at Los Angeles Loyola, is a big-time prospect. UCLA, USC, Texas A&M, Arizona, California, Colorado, Nebraska, Mississippi, Oregon, Washington, Boise State, Washington State - they've all made scholarship offers since the season began. At the same time, the Internet recruiting experts who didn't have any stars marked on Brown's name in September have been left scrambling to catch up. Brown, 6 feet 6 and 290 pounds, is still trying to figure out how he became so popular.

Facing fourth-and-goal from the 1-yard line late in Thursday night's game, West Hills Chaminade quarterback Brad Kaaya knew exactly what he wanted to do. The question was, would his coach give him the chance? Kaaya got his chance and snuck into the end zone with 2:30 left, then watched his defense make a stand deep in its own territory to preserve a 21-14 victory over Pac-5 contender Oaks Christian in Westlake Village. "I thought we were going to just kick the field goal but in the timeout Coach [Ed]

Some things never change in high school football. The Trinity League is always good. Corona Centennial's offense scores lots of points. And Sherman Oaks Notre Dame has a top kicker. Following the path of NFL kickers Nick Folk and Kai Forbath , Lucas Alfonso had field goals from 50 and 49 yards on Saturday to help the Knights defeat Loomis Del Oro, 41-24, in the Honor Bowl at Oceanside High. Like Folk and Forbath, Alfonso is a student of former Notre Dame and UCLA All-American kicker Chris Sailer . Alfonso didn't attempt a field goal last week in Notre Dame's win over Manhattan Beach Mira Costa, so he was waiting for his chance.

The Los Angeles County coroner has identified two people killed in a plane crash last month in the Santa Monica Mountains near Calabasas. Cheryl Jolene Strawn, 69, and Christopher James Wade, 63, died April 29 after the Cessna they were in collided with another aircraft and then crashed. The crash sparked a small brush fire, which charred about an acre in the parched area. The blaze was quickly extinguished, fire officials said.  Strawn was a production designer on the "Nightmare on Elm Street" movies, according to a Facebook page dedicated to the series.

A plane crash in the Santa Monica Mountains on Monday afternoon may be connected to an incident in which a small plane made a forced landing in Westlake Village about the same time, authorities said. The crash of the plane in rugged terrain near Mulholland Highway and Las Virgenes Road occurred shortly after 2 p.m., about the time that a fixed-wing Cessna 172 RG landed on its belly at the Westlake Golf Course, according to officials. "It appears that the two incidents may be connected," Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore told The Times.

A small plane made an emergency landing at the Westlake Golf Course on Monday afternoon, resulting in non-life-threatening injuries to three people, Los Angeles County sheriff's officials said. The Cessna made a belly landing at 2:15 p.m. near the third hole of the golf course. County fire officials and witnesses said the landing gear was still up. One person complained of back pain and was taken to a hospital. Aaron Jesse, 47, said he and some friends left work early Monday to fit in an afternoon round of golf when the small plane came in silently and hit the ground with a thud.
