Alicia Keys will join such company as Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, Billy Joel, Luther Vandross and Whitney Houston when she sings the national anthem before Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans on Feb. 3, the Associated Press is reporting. [Updated at 12:36: The NFL has confirmed the report. ] The Grammy winner will also be joining the company of the Backstreet Boys, Barry Manilow, Kathy Lee Gifford and Cheryl Ladd (yes, that's former Charlie's Angel Cheryl Ladd) -- all former performers of "The Star-Spangled Banner" before the biggest football game of the year.

Seems Bobbi Kristina Brown, daughter of Whitney Houston, walked away from a single-car wreck Wednesday in Georgia without injury to anything but her driving record - and her once-shiny Chevy Camaro. Brown appeared to have lost control of the car while making a left turn out of her apartment complex, the Alpharetta, Ga., police department told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution . Drugs or alcohol did not appear to be a factor, police said....

The Recording Academy has announced its annual list of works to be entered into the Grammy Hall of Fame, and they include recordings by Big Mama Thornton, Buck Owens, James Brown, Bob Dylan, Richard Pryor, Whitney Houston and 22 others. As explained in the Academy's announcement, the honor is bestowed as a way of "highlighting diversity and recording excellence, and acknowledges both singles and album recordings of all genres at least 25 years old that exhibit qualitative or historical significance.

When Whitney Houston died barely 24 hours before the Grammy telecast in February, the Recording Academy and show producers were faced with the delicate challenge of paying homage as she was mourned. With the one-year anniversary of her death approaching, the Grammys gave the late pop titan a final sendoff on Thursday as they taped the upcoming tribute show, the "We Will Always Love You: A Grammy Salute to Whitney Houston" at Nokia Theatre. Grammy executive producer Ken Ehrlich, who found it fitting that the show was being taped as a downpour of rain pounded the city, told the audience the show he didn't want to focus on what happened in February.

Film characters are smoking more on the big screen, and studios that have pledged to clamp down on such portrayals remain among the worst offenders, according to a new study. There were nearly 1,900 portrayals of smoking and other tobacco usage among the 134 highest-grossing films at the box office in 2011, according to researchers at UC San Francisco. The total number of "tobacco incidents" per movie was up 7% from 2010. Among films rated G, PG or PG-13, and thus more easily accessible to younger audiences, that figure increased 36%, the researchers added.

Get ready for Bobby Brown, the sequel. The controversial R&B singer is returning to the reality TV arena. BET is preparing a new project with Brown, whose stormy marriage with late singer Whitney Houston was chronicled in his 2005 Bravo reality series "Being Bobby Brown. " Sources said the new series would revolve around Brown's "life and businesses. " The project with Brown, who is currently touring with the reunited New Edition, will be executive produced by James DuBose, who has developed several other celebrity-based reality shows for BET. One of his most high-profile series centered on Philadelphia Eagles star Michael Vick, who staged a comeback after being imprisoned for his involvement in a dogfighting ring.

As Whitney Houston's final film performance in “Sparkle” plays out in movie theaters, a set of R&B powerhouses have banded together in the wake of her death for a new TV One reality show. “Ironically, we were all at the pre-Grammy event that Whitney last performed at" in February, said singer Faith Evans. "After her death, I certainly just felt like a revelation.” Houston's final curtain call was at Tru Hollywood nightclub, and Evans was one of the co-hosts for that event, which celebrated fellow diva Kelly Price -- and the genre -- after the Grammys cut back its R&B categories.
