Accusing Wells Fargo & Co. of reneging on a sweeping mortgage-modification deal, a lawyer for troubled homeowners is trying to reopen a case involving risky "pick-a-pay" loans written during the housing bubble. Legal filings last week claimed Wells Fargo failed to provide wide-ranging reductions of loan balances to delinquent borrowers as it had promised two years ago when it settled a combined national class-action suit. A bank spokeswoman strongly disputed the claim, saying it was riddled with errors.

Yes, it was that hot Sunday. The scorching temperatures set records at three Los Angeles County weather stations Sunday, topping out at 103 degrees at Burbank's Bob Hope Airport. The old record there, 100 degrees, was set in 1976. In the High Desert, Lancaster had a reading of 98, breaking by one degree the old record, set in 1996.  And in the mountains on the Grapevine, the weather station at Sandberg recorded a temperature of 91. That smashed the old record of 83 set in 2012.

Here's a Tuscan red that will roll with any summer menu. "Tre" is a blend of three grapes (mostly Sangiovese, with 10% each Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon) from Brancaia's three estates in Tuscany. The 2010, easygoing but with character and substance, conjures up the taste of blueberries and dark cherries and something darker and more earthy. Think of it as a strongly drawn secondary character. Maybe not the lead, but I'm happy to open a bottle for dinner at home with friends anytime.

For anyone who loves a leaner, more elegant style of Chardonnay, this is the one. Liquid Farm proprietors Nikki and Jeff Nelson are going for Chardonnay with less oak influence and lower alcohol. Bingo. That's a recipe for a food-friendly wine, and with the help of winemakers Brandon Sparks-Gillis and John Dragonette of Dragonette Cellars, they're making this terrific Chardonnay from Santa Rita Hills grapes. I love its minerality, the sharp, fresh scent of citrus and, well, grape that comes through loud and clear.

Peter Broudy surveyed the Grand Ballroom at the Warner Center Marriott on Tuesday and decided he liked what he saw. And why not? The place has chandeliers larger than many compact cars and room enough to hold a boxing ring plus a crowd of about 1,200 fans. Nice, Broudy said. Almost as nice--but not quite--as the rest of the neighborhood. "You have those big, tall business buildings," Broudy said, "with lots of businessmen."

The LAPD has nothing to connect the men to the girl in terms of previous contact, police sources said. "I've got a young lady that was abducted.
