Matt Barkley moved in the pocket. He moved his recuperated throwing shoulder with ease. He consistently moved the football into the right locations. But there was also something Wednesday that the former USC quarterback didn't move much: The needle. Barkley, the main attraction at USC's pro day, did what was expected of him. In a scripted display of his skills, with representatives from virtually every NFL team watching, he was solid but not spectacular. By an unofficial count, he completed 56 of 62 passes - short, intermediate, and deep - throwing in public for the first time since suffering a separated shoulder in a loss to UCLA in November.

All Ella wants is to play a little football, an American birthright if you're a boy but still a bit of a privilege if you're not. She just turned 13, a good age for almost anything, but especially for running around in the fresh air of fall, trying to snatch the flag off an opposing player's hip. Given their druthers, how many kids today would just as soon spend all afternoon with a video game, as their waists grow prematurely thick? Not Ella Wood. Ella would rather play a cover 2 than a PlayStation 3. This past fall, she played for the Sequoyah School in Pasadena, a private, progressive little place that's been around for more than 50 years.

ORLANDO, Fla. — No matter what day it is, it's always Sunday to Tiger Woods when he's sniffing a title. Woods won the Arnold Palmer Invitational on Monday after storms had delayed the final round — but not Woods' climb back to the golfing mountaintop. "I think he plays every shot like he plays them on Sunday," said Justin Rose, the runner-up. Woods shot a two-under-par 70 for a 13-under 275 total to repeat his title, beating Rose by two shots and four third-place finishers by five.

Here's one woodchuck who won't be gnawing at the metal bars of a jail cell. Punxsutawney Phil, the sharp-toothed groundhog famous for predicting either the onset of spring or the long drag of winter, has been exonerated by a prosecutor who had indicted him for erroneously forecasting warm days ahead at his annual Groundhog Day appearance Feb. 2. “Now it turns out, Punxsutawney Phil is little more than a scapegoat,” the prosecutor in...

"Winning takes care of everything. " It's a phrase Tiger Woods has used often with reporters when asked about his or other golfers' rankings. So it's appropriate that Nike uses that as the slogan in a new ad congratulating Woods on returning to the top of the world golf rankings for the first time in more than two years. Or is it? Some people disapprove of the ad, which Nike posted on Facebook and Twitter, in light of the extramarital affairs that became public in late 2010.

Tiger Woods tied a PGA Tour record Monday by winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando, Fla., for the eighth time, closing with a two-under 70 for a two-shot victory over Justin Rose. “I play well here,” Woods said. “And that's about as simple as it gets.” Oh, and the win put Tiger Woods back on top of the world golf rankings. “That's just a byproduct," he said. " A byproduct of hard work and getting back to winning golf tournaments. Consequently, I've moved up.” Next up for Woods is The Masters, which he has won four times.

Tiger Woods is one round away from returning to No. 1 in the world. With key par saves early in his round and an eagle for the third straight day at Bay Hill, Woods seized control Saturday with a six-under 66 to race by Justin Rose and build a two-shot lead going into the final round of the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Orlando, Fla. Woods was at 11-under 205, two shots ahead of Rickie Fowler (67), John Huh (71) and Rose, who at one point was six shots ahead of Woods. Rose had a 39 on the back nine and wound up with a 72. Woods hasn't been No. 1 in the world ranking since the last week of October 2010.

Tiger Woods has stormed back into the lead at the Arnold Palmer Invitational with a six-under-par 66 on Saturday during the third round at Bay Hill. The former No. 1 player in the world can reclaim the top spot for the first time since October 2010 with a victory on Sunday. He just happens to be a seven-time champion at Bay Hill, so the odds are very good he will be No. 1 when the new rankings are released Monday. Woods moved into the lead on Saturday with an eagle at No. 16. You can watch him hit his approach shot and make a 20-foot putt in the video below.

Bill Haas wanted to atone for the way he finished his opening round. He did that and more Friday and was tied for the lead in the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Orlando, Fla. That sure wasn't the case for Tiger Woods. One shot out of the lead with three holes to play, Woods closed with three sloppy bogeys to fall four shots behind going into the weekend. That makes the chore a little more difficult in his bid to defend his title at Bay Hill and return to No. 1 in the world. "The good news is we've got 36 holes to go," Woods said.
