Tracey Bennett kicked a World League-record 53-yard field goal with 14:49 remaining, giving the Orlando Thunder a 13-10 victory over the Barcelona Dragons (5-5) at Orlando, Fla. Orlando (8-2) took a 7-0 lead when Scott Mitchell threw a four-yard touchdown pass to Joe Howard-Johnson with 11:31 remaining in the first half. The Dragons (5-5) answered when Demetrius Davis caught a 33-yarder from Scott Erney.

It's Year 9 in the professional football career of Babe Laufenberg and he is in a familiar position: sitting. He has been remarkably consistent over the years, sitting for the Washington Redskins, San Diego Chargers, New Orleans Saints and Dallas Cowboys, watching as some of the NFL's best quarterbacks marched those teams up and down football fields, such passers as Joe Theismann, Doug Williams, Mark Rypien and Troy Aikman. In eight NFL seasons, Laufenberg played in 16 games.

Out on bail and awaiting appeal of a drug trafficking conviction, Barry Voorhees thought he could continue his career as a professional football player in Europe. This week, he learned otherwise. Voorhees, a former Cal State Northridge star, was put on waivers late Monday by the Barcelona Dragons of the World League of American Football. Dragon officials say Voorhees was released at his own request.

John Robinson won't debut as an analyst on World League cable telecasts until today, but he has already gotten rave reviews. "USA has come across a real gem," said Ted Robinson, who will call the 5 p.m. game between the Sacramento Surge and the Birmingham Fire along with the former Ram and USC coach. "There's so much potential there. John is going to be a very capable analyst if that is the avenue he wants to pursue."
