A memorial service will be held Monday evening for Frederica (Deri) Rudulph, publisher of the Westwood Insider. Rudulph, 39, was killed Saturday in her Westwood home by her husband, Z Channel executive Gerald Harvey, who then committed suicide, according to authorities. The service, open to public, will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the Westwood Playhouse, 10886 LeConte Ave.

Despite warnings by televangelists about the threat posed by "secular humanism," the real challenge to religion in America today may come from sports. Some people feel as strongly and passionately about sports--especially when it comes to hometown teams or national championships--as they do about their faith. This conflict is often put into sharp focus at Super Bowl time.

The fun and 160-point games may be over when Loyola Marymount opens West Coast Athletic Conference play tonight as host to the University of San Francisco at 7:30. The Lions (6-5) lead the nation in scoring, are on a record pace at 116 points a game, and are coming off a 162-144 victory over U.S. International, their second 160-point game of the season.

Is it worth $12.95 to watch Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Greg Norman and Ian Woosnam play golf on TV? Promoters of the $300,000 Desert Scramble, in which Nicklaus and Trevino will square off against Norman and Woosnam, think it is. The telecast from the Nicklaus-designed Cochise Golf Course at the Desert Mountain Resort near Scottsdale, Ariz., will be shown live on pay-per-view cable, a first for golf, Monday at 4 p.m. and repeated at 7. Either showing can be ordered right up until air time.
