UCLA linebacker Anthony Barr has been terrorizing quarterbacks for weeks. But against Stanford, he was put in reverse. Barr spent most of Saturday's game tied up with Cardinal tight ends Zach Ertz and Levine Toilolo . And Barr can expect more of the same when the Bruins play Stanford in the Pac-12 championship game Friday. "That's what they have asked me to do, so that's what I'm going to do," Barr said. "Those guys are not only physical blockers, they are primary receivers. " Ertz, who is 6 feet 6, 252 pounds, and Toilolo, who is 6-8, 265, are too much for most defensive backs to handle.

Zach Randolph simply dominated NBA news with his own special brand of Zach-ness this last week, just as he dominates the paint. There was a $25,000 fine from the NBA for his off-court confrontation with the Oklahoma City Thunder's Kendrick Perkins . And earlier, the Grizzlies power forward was the subject of a fascinating, lengthy profile by former Times reporter Jonathan Abrams on the website Grantland. The topper of the week happened to be Randolph's own words when he was interviewed by radio host Chris Vernon in Memphis.

Steve Samson and Zach Pollack are chef-partners at southern Italian restaurant Sotto, turning out fresh pasta, pizzas from their wood-burning oven and rustic dishes such as grilled mackerel with cauliflower, cured lemons, crispy buckwheat and pesto pantesca; pork meatballs; or spicy clams with pigeon peas and 'nduja. The insightful wine list focuses on grape varieties native to southern Italy and natural wines made in California. On Nov. 11, natural wine authority Alice Feiring and radical winemaker Frank Cornelissen will host a dinner prepared by Samson and Pollack, to be paired with Cornelissen's wines from Mt. Etna, Sicily.

There is truth in every cliche, so Saturday night's Pac-12 Conference football game between UCLA and California could very well be won in the trenches. The Bears (1-4 overall, 0-2 Pac-12) rank last in the nation in pass protection. Quarterback Zach Maynard may be better acquainted with opposing defenders than he is with his own offensive linemen, who are allowing five sacks per game. His meet-and-greet at Memorial Stadium on Saturday could well be UCLA linebacker Anthony Barr.

USC attempts to bounce back from a loss at Stanford by trying to extend its winning streak against California to nine games. Times staff writer Gary Klein examines the story lines and matchups for Saturday's game. Bouncing back Neither quarterback won last week, but USC's Matt Barkley and Cal's Zach Maynard turned in dissimilar performances. Barkley lost his Heisman Trophy front-runner status after he was sacked four times and had passes intercepted on consecutive throws in a 21-14 loss at Stanford.

USC knew that California receiver Keenan Allen would be formidable again. Cal quarterback Zach Maynard was bound to be improved. And Isi Sofele and C.J. Anderson proved last season that they were solid running backs. USC's preparation this week for Cal also included figuring out a way to contain Brendan Bigelow, who broke out last week against Ohio State. The sophomore running back scored on touchdown runs of 81 and 59 yards and finished with 160 yards in four carries in the Golden Bears' 35-28 defeat at Columbus, Ohio.

Before questions can even be asked, Zach Gilford can't stop talking about how he'd really like his gig as a doctor to stick this time around. Gilford, best known for his role as Matt Saracen on the cult football drama "Friday Night Lights," gives scrubs one more go following his brief stint as a cocky plastic surgeon in last season's short-lived ABC drama "Off the Map. " "I just want to make my grandma proud," the 30-year-old actor joked....

Rude, rowdy and raunchy,"The Campaign"gleefully skewers the current sad state of American politics. With a target that tempting, it's not surprising that this cynical and funny film hits more often than it misses. Starring practiced comics Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis as two politicians who do not hesitate to stoop as low as it takes to claim victory, "The Campaign" allows Jay Roach to nicely reconcile the divergent strands of his directing career. Roach has become known to HBO audiences in recent years as the director of a pair of smart, trenchant political dramas, the Sarah Palin-focused "Game Change" and "Recount," a look at the Bush-Gore Florida standoff, which won him a directing Emmy.

When Joseph Garner was working as the assistant to the director of “The Hangover” in 2008, he was was living an isolated life in the blingy confines of the Caesars Palace Hotel in Las Vegas. But when he would turn on the TV news, all he saw was the unfolding economic crisis. That dichotomy sparked an idea in Garner for his first feature-length film, “Craigslist Joe” -- and he got “Hangover” star Zach Galifianakis to come aboard as executive producer. The low-budget documentary, in theaters Friday, follows the 29-year-old as he spends 31 days living entirely off the goodwill of people on Craigslist.
