L.A. Baptist 35, Marshall Fundamental 18--Twins Matt and Zack Hernandez led the Knights (6-3, 3-1) at Monroe. Zack Hernandez, the quarterback, did not attempt one pass but rushed for 180 yards in 18 carries. He scored on a 12-yard run. Matt Hernandez, the tailback, rushed for 66 yards in 12 carries. Isaac Regenstreif scored for the Knights on runs of three, 35 and 16 yards and rushed for 86 yards.

Zack Hernandez was dragged down from behind just before Cal Lutheran could do the same to Redlands. The Bulldogs prevailed, 28-21, when Rob Benson intercepted a pass by Hernandez at the Redlands 29-yard line with 3 1/2 minutes left in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener Saturday at Mt. Clef Stadium. Hernandez scrambled away from pressure on second down from the Redlands 37-yard line.

Zack Hernandez, a former L.A. Baptist quarterback who redshirted at Cal Lutheran this season, has enrolled for the spring semester at Valley College, Monarch football Coach Jim Fenwick said Wednesday. Hernandez passed for 3,634 yards and 26 touchdowns his senior season at L.A. Baptist in 1993.

Zack Hernandez didn't start, but he certainly put the finishing touches on Cal Lutheran's 39-32 victory over San Diego in a nonconference game Saturday at Mt. Clef Stadium. Hernandez, who started the first two games of the season, came off the bench to spark the Kingsmen to 29 consecutive points in the second half. The Kingsmen (1-2) twice held leads in the first quarter, but fell behind when the Toreros (2-2) scored on four consecutive possessions in the second quarter.

Quarterback Zack Hernandez ran for one touchdown and threw for two more to lead unbeaten L.A. Baptist High to a 43-18 victory over St. Bonaventure in a nonleague game Saturday night at Ventura High. Hernandez connected with his twin brother, Matt Hernandez, for a 47-yard scoring pass in the fourth quarter. Matt Hernandez also scored on a three-yard run in the first quarter to cap a 13-play, 80-yard drive and give L.A. Baptist (5-0) a 7-3 lead.

Turnovers proved costly for Cal Lutheran in a 32-21 season-opening nonconference loss to host Menlo College on Saturday. The Kingsmen, behind starting quarterback Zack Hernandez, took a 14-0 halftime lead, but committed three turnovers in a four-minute span of the third quarter, each leading to Menlo scores and a 20-14 lead for the Oaks. Cal Lutheran had five turnovers.

L.A. Baptist 21, Valley Christian 3--Junior Zack Hernandez passed for two touchdowns and ran for a third to power L.A. Baptist at Monroe High. The Knight defense forced five turnovers and Hernandez finished with 151 passing yards. He threw touchdown passes of 65 and 25 yards to Jim Romero and also scored on a six-yard run.

Zack Hernandez, a former All-Southern Section quarterback from L.A. Baptist High, will leave Cal Lutheran to play junior college football, Kingsmen Coach Joe Harper said. Hernandez could not be reached for comment, but Harper said his impression is that Hernandez wants to play junior college football as a means to earning a Division I scholarship. Hernandez redshirted his freshman season at Division III Cal Lutheran this year.
